Atmosphere & Experience Consultancy

Atmosphere is not decoration. It is the quality that determines whether a space holds the people who inhabit it – or merely contains them.

The Atmosphere & Experience Consultancy is a focused, upstream engagement designed to define how a space should feel, flow, and be remembered – before design decisions are made, before architects are briefed, before the first material is specified.

This is where a project finds its emotional intelligence. Everything that follows becomes clearer for it.

When This Consultancy Is Right

This consultancy is suited to projects where:

  • A building or space already exists, but its experience is unresolved
  • A brand, function, or aesthetic direction is in place, but needs testing and refinement
  • Multiple stakeholders require a shared experiential framework
  • Heritage, context, or sensitivity demands thoughtful restraint
  • Clarity is needed before engaging architects, designers, or contractors

Typical projects include boutique hotels and hospitality openings, wellness retreats, members’ clubs, cultural and heritage venues, private estates, and design-led commercial properties. The consultancy is available remotely for projects anywhere in the UK and internationally.

How We Work

Atmosphere & Experience Consultancy is collaborative, strategic, and deliberately contained.

Step One – Pre-Session Review

Ahead of our session, Reverie undertakes a short review of relevant materials – which may include plans, imagery, brand positioning, or contextual information – to understand the project’s intent and constraints.

Step Two – Atmosphere & Experience Session

A structured half- or full-day session, held on-site or conducted remotely. The conversation works through the invisible layer of the space — the sensory and emotional qualities that no floor plan captures:

  • emotional identity and tone
  • arrival, transition, pause, and departure
  • light as atmosphere – natural, artificial, rhythm through the day
  • material sensibility and sensory balance
  • spatial pacing, thresholds, and moments of stillness
  • how architecture, narrative, and use intersect

This is not about prescribing style. It is about establishing coherence.

Step Three – The Atmosphere Blueprint

A considered written assessment of how a space is currently performing and a precise design direction for what it could become.

The Blueprint is a working document – designed to be used, shared, and returned to throughout a project. It is structured across eight sections, moving from an initial atmospheric reading of the space through a detailed sensory review and a set of specific design recommendations, to a considered statement of what the space will be capable of once those recommendations are implemented.

It typically covers:

  • A first reading – the felt quality of the space before analysis begins
  • Spatial intelligence – proportion, circulation, focal points, and the logic of enclosure
  • A sensory review – light, material depth, acoustic quality, scent, and temperature
  • Emotional impact – what the space is doing to the people who inhabit it, and why
  • Opportunities for transformation – where the greatest atmospheric leverage lies
  • Specific design recommendations – a brief, precise enough to hand directly to an architect or design team
  • What to protect – the things already working that must not be lost

The Blueprint can be produced from an in-person session or remotely, using architectural drawings, photography, and a recorded walkthrough. Remote Blueprints are available for projects anywhere in the UK and internationally, and are completed within ten working days of commission.

The Blueprint is most powerful when commissioned before design decisions are made. It is an act of attention before action.

Relationship to Design & the Concept Studio

Atmosphere & Experience Consultancy may stand alone, or form the foundation for wider interior design work with Reverie.

Where interior design focuses on what is specified and delivered, this consultancy defines why – aligning teams before execution begins.

Much of this thinking is informed by Reverie’s Concept Studio, where imagined interiors and narrative-led studies act as prototypes. This engagement applies that intelligence directly to live projects, in real contexts.

Where a full design commission follows from a consultancy engagement, the consultancy fee is credited against the project total.

Engagement & Investment

Engagements begin from £1,500 + VAT for residential and smaller-scale projects. Hospitality and commercial commissions are scoped individually to reflect the project’s complexity and scale. Completed Atmosphere Blueprints are typically delivered within ten working days. Availability is intentionally limited to allow for considered thinking and meaningful collaboration. Enquiries are welcomed and responded to within 48 hours.

A Different Way of Working

Many projects move too quickly into layouts, finishes, or furnishings without first articulating how a space should feel. The result is often competent design – but without cohesion, emotional resonance, or longevity.

Atmosphere & Experience Consultancy creates clarity before complexity.

If you are seeking alignment, restraint, and emotional intelligence at the earliest stage of a project, this is where we begin.
